The world’s sixth-richest man has just bought Hawaii’s sixth-largest island.
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has bought the majority of the Hawaiian island of Lana’i, reports The Maui Times. With the sale, Ellison will pick up 98 percent of the 141-square-mile comma-shaped island.
The sale was rumored to run between $500 to $600 million, according to a previous report from the Maui Times.

God, it sucks to realize that I'll never know what its like to be that rich.
I think after I bought the island, I would stand by the docks dressed in a white suit and welcome visitors to my island while affecting a thick, Cuban accent.
And I would hire someone short to stand beside me to announce the arrival of the plane.

Pfffffffttttt! 22,000 acres ain't shyyyiiitttt in Texas. We buy that much to park our mob-iiilll homes on. Never ask another Texan the size of his spread.![]()
To be honest, if I had as much money as he does, I'd bought an island as well.
If he buys the remaining 2% as well he could declare independence and make himself a tax haven![]()
Are the 3000 inhabitants included in the price? Or at least a few hula girls to lay foundation to his new tribe.
2% remaining space does seem a bit cramped. Will he put up "No Trespassing" signs? I would![]()
But he probably doesn't have much time to enjoy it.
For me it would be enough playground for the next decades.....so much to do on your own adequate sized island!
Should be against the law for somebody to own an an island.
