Tunguska shooting.
I like the high rate of fire by MLG 27 better. 1700 rounds of 27 mm per minute beats 180 rounds of 25 mm...

Roughly the same ballpark in calibre, yeah, but the MG27 is a revolver cannon vs the autocannon Mk38, which is really a Bushmaster M242 in disguise. I suspect the MG27s operating principle allows for a higher rate of fire. If you want firerate and calibre, strap a Goalkeeper or one of those Russian AK-series to your deck![]()

Same purpose than the MK 38 Mod 2, self defense against speedboats. MLG 27 isnt a CIWS but can be used against planes and helicopters too.
It's in no way a light system, here exactly do you put the ammo?
What vehicle will ever go in combat with 30 sec of ammo (fighters planes that's about the only ones I know to have so little, but it's their last resort backup, not their main armaments)...
I imagine you could put one on a dedicated SPAAG chassis, but that's about it. It's a modern naval "mixed" system like the older Oerlikon 20mm or the Giat F2.

We got some unarmed(only got some .50cals) patrolcrafts( http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana-klassen )which is supposed to the upgraded with a 'main gun'. I believe both MK 38 Mod 2 and MLG 27 is under consideration.. It will be interesting to se which one will be chosen.. I hope for more Millenium 35mm/AHEAD, the same we use on our large vessels. But since the new guns primary role will be combating small surface vessel and not air threats, I believe we'll get something less capable(and cheaper of course!)
The Millenium IS the most capable CIWS on the market today(because of its ROF, Range and the very effective AHEAD ammo). They are just so very expensive sadly..
It can fire 1 RPM, 200 RPM and 1000 RPM and the projectiles(750grams!) can be programmed in a number of ways. Which brings me back to MK38 Mod 2(Bushmaster). Havn't ATK made a naval version of their 30mm Bushmaster.. which also got programable ammo ? Basically the same as is supposed to arm USMC's new EFV..??
I'm a gunner for an LAV-25, uses the 242. We've got the Single, 100, 200 selector switch, and she is pretty reliable. It's just like a video game, kinda boring after a a few three round bursts though.
The EFV is scrapped by the way, the hulls are sitting on ranges at Pendleton.
