Assuming our assertions are right, then the location of wreckage will give the best clue.... intriguing indeed.

A Turkish military aircraft has crashed in Syria, according to media reports. A local witness has told RT Arabic that the plane crashed on Syrian territory and the two pilots were captured.
*The plane appears to have been shot down, the witness said. The craft went down as Syrian air defense opened fire, says Lebanon-based Al-Mayadeen TV.
Turkey says it lost contact with the craft while it was flying over the Mediterranean sea off the southeastern province of Hatay, which borders Syria. A search and rescue operation has been launched after the Turkish military lost radar and radio contact with the plane as it took off from Erhac Airport in the eastern province of Malatya.

If indeed a Turkish jet was shot down over the Med by Syria, it would probably be by a S-300.

I seriously doubt that there's S-300 in Syria...Besides, both countries are bordered by the med, so that information gives us nothing in terms of the range of the weapons system involved.

Indeed, there's no conclusive evidence that Syria recieved the S-300.

Just like there's nothing conclusive to prove that Syria shot down that F4.
