According to Turkish media, Syria sad sorry(for what?) and they say that Erdo changed his flightplan from Istanbul to Ankara and has planned a meeting with the ministers of Defence, Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs and the general.

An urgent meeting of the prime minister with the most important ministers and a representative of the army shows that it was not an accident, the jet was shot down.

Erdogan nearly declared war with Israel over the flotilla incident, I wonder how his temper will influence this. Though I think he might be a bit more level-headed with Syria. He doesn't come off as emotionally invested in crusading against Syria (unlike Israel) and he was good friends with Assad until a year ago.

My guess is Syria is going to apologize, Assad doesn't need this headache and the 2 regimes had strong ties up until recently.

There have already been cross-border shooting incidents that he could have used if he'd wanted to do that....

In diplomacy there are no friends. And yes, when your neighbor "friend" is weak you take advantage of that, in the beginning not so obviously (see the reports about the weapons are supplied from Turkish to support the enemies of Assad).

Anyway I hope both sides to reconsider before doing anything stupid, Suria is in a civil war and a mistake can happen. Erdogan should not find this an excuse to invade Syria, other players may participate as well if such thing happen and then the whole situation will be..

Article 5 doesn't cover getting shot down while violating another nation's airspace.

Syrian authorities have apologized for taking down a military plane that had lost contact with the Turkish Armed Forces earlier today, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

The plane was taken down by Syrian forces, an official Turkish source confirmed to Hürriyet Daily News.

The pilots of a crashed Turkish military plane have been rescued by forces, daily Hürriyet reported.
The pilots, who are in good health, were located in the Mediterranean Sea.

So I guess there is not much going to happen if Erdo already confirmed this but did not combine this confirmation with at least the threat of action..

Interesting they use the term "forces" to say who recovered them, if Turkey had recovered the pilots they would have said Turkish forces have recoverd the pilots safely, but using term "forces" is perhaps an indication the pilots are not in Turkey now but are being held by Syria.

    Syria says sorry and done.

AKP's foreign policy on Syria is completely failed, they were not predicting that Syrian rebels would fail againts military, they were expecting a new government that would have more close ties to them, now their hands tied, a war would just economically harm Turkey and relations with Russia and Iran would get worsened, in the worst scenario may be more countries would involved.

I hope that the fact that both pilots are safe will help things not to escalte to something bad...
