Nah I think a walking race is a stupid concept from the get go. I think they're doubly stupid when it's the only event with commentary. Why not just have a conventional running race? Guy 100 yards up the road is tiring? Shame you can't just jog past him, because you're obliged to use an inconvenient gait.

Obviously I hope China win's (its a medal table thing, to quote Arfah), but it's still a retarded event.

Congratulations to her. It's still a fundamentally stupid event, for the following reason:

The new WR is 1:25. I did a half marathon in about 1:20. Which means a race completed in world record time by a professional athletes, took longer than it did for a slightly longer distance to be run by a bloke off the street of pretty average fitness, purely do to a stupid clause in the rules on how you may cover the distance.

Congratulations to Mexico aka El Tri for defeating Brazil to gain the Olympic Gold Medal in Soccer(Futbol)!!!

Fastest goal ever in an Olympic final helps Mexico to first soccer gold | Fourth-Place Medal - Yahoo! Sports

Heavily favored Brazil once again suffered an unexpected defeat in the Olympic men's soccer final as Mexico took its first gold medal in the sport. Mexico proved to be the sharper side from the very beginning of the match, stunning Brazil with the fastest goal ever in an Olympic soccer final 29 seconds into the match on the way to a 2-1 win.

A careless short pass from Brazil defender Rafael led to the quick goal for Oribe Peralta to give Mexico an instant lead. The only other player to score in the first minute of an Olympic football final was Milan Galic for Yugoslavia's gold-medal winners in 1960.

Though Brazil controlled possession for much of the game following that opening goal, Mexico looked sharp and dangerous in the counter attack while 31-year-old captain and goalkeeper Jose Corona made a number of big saves. Brazil's desperation set in early as it subbed on Hulk just 30 minutes into the game and eventually added Pato and Lucas later on. But even with all that talent, Brazil struggled to get meaningful shots off.

Peralta made up for the absence of injured leading goal scorer Gio Dos Santos by adding a second goal in the 75th minute to give Mexico a 2-0 and all but seal the game. Brazil would provide a bit of a fightback very late on when Hulk finally scored in added time and Oscar missed with a header right in front of goal before the final whistle.

So Brazil's Olympic curse continues as they now have three silver medals and two bronze yet still no gold in soccer. For Mexico, this is not only the first gold in football, but first medal of any kind. There's no doubt this is a golden generation for Mexico that's on the rise.

Mo Farah wins the 5000m and takes home a second gold to hang next to his 10,000m one. Had me worried a bit, very slow race meant the pack was still there, but Mo brought it home calmly. Very well done lad!

Team GB now have 60 medals, of which 27 are Gold.

You did 1h20? That is either a pretty good for an average fitness guy (given how the average B cat tri-athletes are around those times for a 20 km run on half-Ironman) or there are things you do not say us .

I rounded off two and a bit minutes and exaggerated the fitness for effect. I was the fittest I'd been in my life. I was pretty fit anyway and then trained up for it, with a friend who's into his running. Time was 1:22:41, from crossing the start line to the finish

Anyway the point was, the WR for the 20km walk is about twenty minutes slower than professional athletes could run that distance in the conventional manner, which to me is a silly concept for a race.
