Syrian Rebels Ransack Christian Churches
A photograph provided to us by a Christian woman in Homs, scene of some of the bloodiest clashes of the conflict, shows a member of the Free Syrian Army posing with a looted Catholic cross in one hand and a gun in the other while wearing a priest’s robe.
Another image shows a ransacked church in Bustan al-Diwan (Old Homs).![]()

What about all those dozens of churches in Syria that have been destroyed by the Syrian Army? That last picture looks like the church was shelled to sh!t by artillery already. I'm all for protecting holy sites, but if anybody thinks that Assad is doing Christian's any favors in Syria, you're fooling yourself. It's not only Christian's he doesn't care about, it's hundred year old UNESCO World Heritage sites. Everybody went into outrage mode when the Taliban blew up ancient Buddhist statues, but when the Syrian Army shells the Qa'lat al-Madiq nobody hears about it.
Look at how the regime expelled Reverend Paolo Dall'Oglio for simply bringing Christian's and Muslim's together after living there for 30+ years.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/21/wo...pagewanted=allFather Paolo said he harbored a certain sympathy for the churches headquartered in Damascus because, like all Syrian organizations, they were infiltrated by the secret police. But those abroad had no excuse, he said. “I was really astonished that the patriarch of Moscow was not able to ask the Russian partner of the Syrian power to protect the Christians of Homs,” he said. “The old Christian presence in Homs is destroyed.”
Pictures speak a thousand words, no doubt they were destroyed by Islamic fundaments.
Oldest Christian Church in Syria, destroyed.
Assad may perhaps be a dictator, but the perspective of a Syria where the Muslim Brotherhood is in power may be worse.
Why would you expect Islamists and terrorists to respect anothers church?
But then again, if there were being used as fighting positions, then i say level em.
It's amazing how many people jump on the "terrorists did it!" bandwagon before doing a little research. The church in the picture is the Um al-Zennar Church which is a Syriac Orthodox Church that was shelled by the Syrian Army in Hamidiyeh, Homs.
Here's some proof:
Are you saying there are no Christians on the FSA Side? Retardation knows no religion.
There are christians fighting against Assad as well. Most of them stayed out of it because they are afraid of retaliation. Same goes for Druze and Kurds who have no reason to love Assad. Than again, minorities will have to pick sides eventually. If they pick up the one who will loose, they are screwed.
Of course they fear those Sunni extremists. They don't shine in tolerance towards other religions.
Well, Assad may give only a damn about his own position, but the Christians are way better of under his regime than under a potential Muslim Brotherhood regime.Doesn't change the fact that Assad doesn't give a crap about Christian's. Those pictures are most likely propaganda. How many Sunni's are there with tattoo's? That's more of a Shiite thing.
The Christians, who make up some 10 percent of the 22 million Syrian population, have shown support for the existing Syrian government, much to the consternation of the opposition, which increasingly is being infiltrated by al-Qaida and other Islamic fundamentalist groups. Among those is the Muslim Brotherhood, which considers the Christians to be infidels.
While many Christians regard the Assad regime as repressive and want an open, democratic, inclusive and religiously tolerant society, they realize that there will be no such developments with a change of regime, especially some sort of Muslim Brotherhood puppet government.
Ok, I´ll just take your word for it, no need for anything else.
