A photograph provided to us by a Christian woman in Homs, scene of some of the bloodiest clashes of the conflict, shows a member of the Free Syrian Army posing with a looted Catholic cross in one hand and a gun in the other while wearing a priest’s robe.
Another image shows a ransacked church in Bustan al-Diwan (Old Homs).

What about all those dozens of churches in Syria that have been destroyed by the Syrian Army? That last picture looks like the church was shelled to sh!t by artillery already. I'm all for protecting holy sites, but if anybody thinks that Assad is doing Christian's any favors in Syria, you're fooling yourself. It's not only Christian's he doesn't care about, it's hundred year old UNESCO World Heritage sites. Everybody went into outrage mode when the Taliban blew up ancient Buddhist statues, but when the Syrian Army shells the Qa'lat al-Madiq nobody hears about it.
Look at how the regime expelled Reverend Paolo Dall'Oglio for simply bringing Christian's and Muslim's together after living there for 30+ years.

Assad may perhaps be a dictator, but the perspective of a Syria where the Muslim Brotherhood is in power may be worse.

Probably because they fear what the future brings. Doesn't change the fact that Assad doesn't give a crap about Christian's. Those pictures are most likely propaganda. How many Sunni's are there with tattoo's? That's more of a Shiite thing.
There are christians fighting against Assad as well. Most of them stayed out of it because they are afraid of retaliation. Same goes for Druze and Kurds who have no reason to love Assad. Than again, minorities will have to pick sides eventually. If they pick up the one who will loose, they are screwed.
Of course they fear those Sunni extremists. They don't shine in tolerance towards other religions.

The Christians, who make up some 10 percent of the 22 million Syrian population, have shown support for the existing Syrian government, much to the consternation of the opposition, which increasingly is being infiltrated by al-Qaida and other Islamic fundamentalist groups. Among those is the Muslim Brotherhood, which considers the Christians to be infidels.
While many Christians regard the Assad regime as repressive and want an open, democratic, inclusive and religiously tolerant society, they realize that there will be no such developments with a change of regime, especially some sort of Muslim Brotherhood puppet government.
