I know if I took some 8mm steel cores and put it to the test against this guy's body armor, it'd go right through.

The guy has nice sense of humour.
They did the test with lead bullet .38 Special if my eyes aren't lying. Doesn't require much to stop that one.
If the whole clothes, not just torso area offers protection, it's actually a good supplement to the vest,
as most concealed vest generally don't offer protection to limbs, neck and shoulder.
