It's bits and pieces right now but from what I'm hearing it was a 5-4 vote to uphold, Chief Roberts sided with the left side of the aisle on the vote. Also from what I'm understanding is that the opinion offered up thus far is that for the law to use the commerce clause would be illegal, but the law stands constitutionally if considered a tax.
Punitive mandate is gone but the bill is upheld via tax power. This contradicts Obama's claims that the bill wasn't a tax.
I don't care who won or who lost, the most important part of this ruling today is that insurance companies can no longer deny coverage because someone has a pre-existing condition.
We. Are. Fvcked. Thanks for nothing SC.
"The decision leaves in place the so-called individual mandate -- the requirement on Americans to have or buy health insurance beginning in 2014 or face a penalty -- although many are exempt from that provision. In 2014, the penalty will be $285 per family or 1% of income, whichever is greater. By 2016, it goes up to $2,085 per family or 2.5% of income."
Guess who are exempt? A bunch of Obama cronies and the politicians. Must be a great deal eh? Fvck 'em all.
*knock........knock........knock....
Mitt: "What's that?"
Coffin nails.
Good. If you ask most people about the provisions in the bill (no lifetime limits, cannot exclude base on pre-existing conditions, can insure kids under parents up to age 25, etc) they have no issues with what is in it. If you tell them that you are compelled to purchase health insurance but there is no penalty if you do not, then they are usually fine with that part too.
Except that there IS a penalty. .

I don't like it, but I somewhat saw this coming. I have a small-government streak, but a little voice inside me does say that health care does need to be included with the likes of police and firefighting. But with that being said, is Obamacare the best we could do? It's really messy.
The fundamental flaw that I've read about, so far, is that not everyone has to pay. The number of politically-motivated exemptions that have been granted is stunning, especially from the "most ethical administration ever".
I'll wait to hear more about the pros and cons of the decision before I develop my one 20 cents worth of opinion.
