Default Aung San Suu Kyi 'teases François Hollande over his women ministers'

According to Libération, Mr Hollande presented her his female ministers and aides one by one. She congratulated him, but added: "Did you really choose all these female ministers or did they force you into it?"

Did this strange idea derive from her own experience in Myanmar?

Nothing strange, as I see. Ministers should be chosen only for their knowledge and experience but not gender.

Sadly, Aung San Suu Kyi is correct. The equality politics overlook this little thing called 'knowledge' in order to achieve a 50/50 male/female dominance in politics and companies.

Personally, I'd rather see the most fitting person for the job.

Ministers being chosen for their knowledge and experience would be amazing. Them being chosen for "equality" in politics would be an improvement, at least in Portugal, over them being chosen for being a daughter/wife/ex-wife of a "career" politician.

    Cheers,

Berating her for using the name “Burma” during landmark recent visits to Thailand and Europe, the Election Commission accused Suu Kyi and party members of flouting a constitution they have vowed to uphold.

I think that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi should learn to show basic respect to others whom she dislikes.

I wonder if she was referring to the meeting specifically rather than a whole policy. Either way, it's hardly news.

I think that Burma (yeah, you heard me) should get its stick out of its ass.
If she is going to call the country by that name (which is widely accepted) instead of the name propped up by folks who imprisoned her, she should be able to do so.

Call me a pervert but Aung San Suu Kyi must have been something during her younger days.

Nothing remarkable. Maybe its just because of bad haircut and not smiling for the camera, but she she looks far less graceful.

    Hehehe !! I like her humour !

And for someone who believes so much in democracy, she could score a point here : did they choose the ministers for their competences or just for PR, like "Lookie ! I hired loads of women ! Woohoo !!" ??

In Scandinavia (correct me if I'm mistaken, northern friends), the female politicians appear to me as really competent for their jobs, while in France, I fear it's often decorum... (like female, black and arab ministers with Sarkozy in 3rd rate ministries...) Some stand out as great at their jobs, but not all...

They look better than Scandinavian female politicians, but not as good as Italian female politicians.
    At least those under Berlusconi.

The french simply solved their lack of Womanpower problem by appointing the daughters, wives and relatives of influential men and filling the rest with showcase minority women to pretend everybody can make it (provided they study at SciPol)
