Meh, not surprising and not really significant for that matter.
UNESCO's World Heritage committee has voted to approve a Palestinian bid to the place the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem on the site of lists of world dangers.

It's nice to see how islamists take a thing by force or insidiously and use diplomacy to conquer another thing. Like islamists did in Libya. They spoke about atrocities by Khadaffi and cried to get international help by diplomacy and after having got what they wanted, they put the sharia.
This is the same thing here. Islamists persecute and force into exile the christians from Bethlehem and try to use diplomacy to say that Israel is the ugly monster responsible of all.
Really sometimes I wonder why our western countries don't try to counteract that.
The beginning of what?
We (or perhaps our media) have this annoying habit of trying very hard to scare ourselves.
Wars, rockets, suicied bombings... all of these have not broken our spirit, so a series of votes by UNESCO will?
Abbas needs to stop playing games and return to the negotiating table as that's the only way he can achieve statehood for his people.
Sadly Abbas doesn't seem like a big enough man to do this.
Nah not war. Its not the UNESCO organization that is scary. Its the little by little steps that add up eventually. What is going to happen in the future when UNESCO approves 4 more heritage sites in the PA corner. I believe this can add up to further problems in the future from the international community ( not the specific church decision).
Nobody from the PLO will ever consider a peaceful statehood. And Hamas will certainly not give up power in Gaza for a 'unification'. Its a violation of their charter.
J.Noah, why time after time you open here threads, which have nothing to do not with military, nor with photos?
Besides, there is "political discussions and rants" section in this forum..
On the topic: the problematic thing here is that they registered the site under the name "Palestine", while there is no such a country, and the final status of this territory is not defined yet.
And more on the topic:
Bethlehem's exodus
Christians flee Muslim pressure

Only Allah can do that!
No I just think world opinion and world pressure especially from the UN is already in the negative with Israel. Its bad enough that the UN does not read and respect Israel's rights under international law. I just think this decision can lead into future decisions which is a continual encroachment of international law. If this does not make sense then I just need to stop and drink a Goldstar.
