Default Syria troops mass on Turkey border

Dubai: The Free Syrian Army said on Friday that Syrian troops were massing near the Turkish border amid tensions since Syria’s downing of a Turkish jet last week. “There are military units massing 15 kilometres or slightly more, from the Turkish border, in the northern region,” of Syria, FSA supreme military council head Mustafa Al Shaikh said.

Asked to comment, a Syrian foreign ministry spokesman reported: “No hostile intentions from the Syrian side.”
Al Shaikh said that around 2,500 troops backed by 170 tanks and other vehicles were stationed at the border, roughly 25km from Aleppo. Al Shaikh said the troop build-up could be a “show of force against the Turkish military, which increased its presence on the Syrian border” after warplane incident.

“Fearing Turkish military intervention, the Syrian military proceeded to mobilise its forces,” he said. But he said the troop build-up might equally be in preparation for an operation inside Syria. “Another possibility ... may be a crackdown in Aleppo countryside,” he said. Meanwhile, dozens of civilians were killed across the country on Friday, but most of the deaths were in Douma, a suburb of Damascus and Deir Al Zour. The dead included three children and five members of a single family.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that more than 125 civilians in fighting on Thursday alone.
International mediator Kofi Annan said on Friday he was “optimistic” that ministerial crisis talks being held on Saturday would produce an acceptable outcome. But envoys who had gathered in Geneva were huddled in private meetings on Friday trying to come up with ways to break the deadlock on Syria’s political transition after Russia proposed changes to Annan’s plan.

Is it 2500 and rising or just 2500 troops?

This **** is starting to get more and more out of control, it's as if someone is writing a script for another apocalyptic war movie. I'm just wondering whats going to hit the news pipeline next that will push Turkey to the tipping point of military strikes against Syria, which will subsequently involve NATO... ****ing 'ell, its like everyone (general public) doesn't want anything to do with Syria. So in order to get what 'they' (evil government/leaders/owners) want, they are purposely scripting this **** to happen to lead them into military action against Syria. "Yeah, just keep flying this route... No, no, the GPS is wrong your flying well within our borders..." Sorry, I'll stop with my tinfoil hat conspiracies.

I just know the last thing we/NATO needs is another war on our hands. Really can't afford to try and rebuild Syria with our NATO allies.

Hmmm The CIA and other agencies are actively and openly arming rebels on Turkish soil. The Syrians would have to be completely brain dead not to deploy as many troops as they could spare along their border with Turkey and Jordan.

It's funny because the most secure border Syria has is with Israel. I loves me some good irony.

Or maybe Syrian army is preparing for offensive against large parts of area in northen Aleppo and Idlib provinces that are out of their control (including several border towns like Azaz) and which are lifeline for weapons smuggling into Syria. Same goes for Lebanese border near Bekaa valley. Or the conspiracy thing.

Big mistake. By escalating they are increasing the chances of conflict. Put a lot of troops on edge close to the border, getting jumpy over everything that comes their way, there's bound to be an incident. I bet we'll hear about more cross border clashes soon, maybe a couple of guard posts fired on. Then what will Turkey do? Be forced to escalate the situation even more?
    One big mess.

Once again, this isn't an escalation nor is it likely directed at Turkey.

This is just the press pumping up the hype like that always do.

Would Saudi troops be welcome in Jordan? Seems a little far fetched.

Read it as Saudi aid convoy for Syrian refugees has arrived in Jordan.

Could be. How do either of us know for sure?

Tensions are pretty high between Turkey and Syria, I wouldn't put it past either of them so easily.

Syria wouldn't stand a chance against Turkey even if it wasn't racked my civil war - They know this, they aren't suicidal or stupid, and I doubt they look forward to a return of Ottoman occupation.
