It's funny because the most secure border Syria has is with Israel. I loves me some good irony.
They didnt give any **** about their border for many years even as i remember we carried border till a Syrian village for saying hello protect your border.

A saving face gesture, maybe? Don't want to appear weak, so they deploy troops to make themselves look determined or powerful?

I have no doubts that Turkey would steamroller Syria, but then they'd have a huge insurgency on their hand. I doubt they'd want to get into an Iraq style occupation.

Muslims from the north bring their tanks, Muslims from inside blow up Syrian tanks, Muslims from all over think about sending tanks to Syria, yet the Evil Zionists (AKA Juices) are worse than them all together , GO FIGURE

They dance with the PKK every blue moon. Does that count? If not I guess Cyprus in 1974 or Korea in the 1950's. My money would be on the Turks in any scenario.

    Another thread about this? Really?

Both the Turks and the Syrians are not interested in a conflict with each other, it would have kicked off by now if they did.

Whatever movement of forces is occuring is probably muscle flexing at most.

So where does this leave the FSA at?

Kick back and watch two countries kill each other?

IMO, this provides a side profit for the FSA. Troops that Syria should gather to reinforce defenses at her borders could not be used to fight the uprising.

Which is pretty strong in the border area. Syrian army has one, gigantic problem during this conflict and that is being overstretched. Rebels are using it to their advantage, they leave the town/village where army comes to retake it and use their fighters to harass smaller patrols, checkpoints and recently even smaller bases which are weakened by departure of their armour. And when army leaves the town, they simply return. Meanwhile army convoy gets hit by IED or two on the way there and on the way back, taking casualties.

Exactly. The Syrian army is overstretched and busy to move units from one uprising town to another.
Some of its units can't contribute to the fight as they have to face the IDF defenses on the Golan Heights. Now, other units should reinforce the Turkish border in an area in which their logistical tail could be an easy prey to attacks by the rebels.

    Chest beating on Assad's front.

It's a shame Erdogan had to make Israel an enemy, else Turkey and Israel could cooperate here and the shadow of a 2 front war against 2 superior enemies could see real concessions for the better. The 2 countries are natural allies.

While the bulk of the Syrian Army has historically been deployed along the Golan Heights, Assad can probably divert just about everything from there to the north. He knows the Israeli's are going to keep the border quiet. Though with loyal forces in Syria numbering only some 70,000, overstretching of Assad's forces is still a looming threat for him.

Outside of Germany(Norway and it's energy wealth doesn't count), Turkey probably has the most successful economy going in that region.

Why would the Turks mess with a good thing?

If there is a military clash between Turkey and Syria, Turkey would kick Syria's @ss....but Turkey would be crucified economically in the currency and financial markets.

It's best if Turkey takes the moral high road....while still allowing naughty naughty UW things to happen within it's territory or staged from it and blame Israel, Iraqi Kurds, and Jordan in that order.
