As I understand it, you can buy old Humvees from the DLA or Ebay. I've always wondered, since people do modify automatics to become manuals, has anyone heard of this being done with an HMMWV? Google drew a complete blank with this one.
Im not sure if theres a GM manual transmission that would bolt up.
Th 998 series has a GM 400 series automatic transmission and a Chevy 6.2 l v-8 diesel (same one in the old blazers and CUCV ) if your taking the newer 6.5 l some models also had the 400 trans.Just lately they have converted to a new model transmission and a 242 series transfer case Hope that info helps
I would love that my Eagle 3 had a manual transmission. The fitted automatic was crap..
Doesn't the 6.2/6.5L use the old Chevy bellhousing patern? I thought it did. That would make pretty much everything GM 1950-2000 adapt to it. Even the friggen Powerglide!
Simplest swap would be a transmission/transfer case donation from a mid-90's diesel Chevy/GMC C/K. You'd have to fabricate a clutch pedal, linkage, master & slave cylinders, and mounts though. Then there's the problem of output shafts for the front-wheel drive. If the transfer case output is on the wrong side you are screwed.
It's all moot anyways as surplus humvees have to have their suspension chopped up to leave the lot. The civvies who didn't take super-special training course could hurt themselves... or something. That leaves prospective owners fabricating an entire independent suspension system from scratch. Screw that.
