Are the rapes seen as a racist thing as well since they seem to target white teens only? I know little of UK hate crimes legislation.

Legally I'd say they'd not get that to stick. Though it would have been nice to have seen it cited as an aggravating factor, which possibly would have meant a longer sentence.
