Can I have the entire Cirque de Soliel troop for my mommies and daddies? That would be cool. Free tickets, and awesome family reunion parties.

Well, what is the next step then huh? A dog as a parent?
This bill threatens the sanctity of parenthood.

Cool, this kind of legislation is long over due. My wife has been the step-parent of my eldest for years, but was unable to put her own name in as an emergency contact, because she wasnt a legal parent, but only a guardian in the eyes of the law, and only when my daughter didn't have me physicaly present. Very far from cool when my kid got the sniffles at school, I was out of phone coverage, and my ****ing exwife in 3 states away was called instead of her step-mom, who worked in the same school.

In all seriousness, with the kind of social change we are seeing in this nation, this was inevitable. Old social structures are being torn down, and new ones experimented with. How that turns out remains to be seen.

This post makes too much sense and actually deals with the reasons behind the bill (I'd guess) and should be deleted for dampening my ability to raaaaage.

As Serosha (with the awesome avatar) points out, this all began with divorce being legal - wan't to preserve the sanctity of marriage ? preserve the family unit ? then let's go back to the good old days when a vow made before GOD and THE state was .... binding. Otherwise stop your whining and go with the flow.

I was thinking, a couple with children gets a divorce, they remarry. Often step parents are considered parents, why not both? What if there is joint custody. Sort of like what Seroasha is saying. It simplifies insuring the welfare of the child.
