Default Pakistan Opens NATO Supply Line as Clinton Apologizes

WASHINGTON — Pakistan told the United States it was reopening NATO’s supply routes into neighboring Afghanistan after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said she was sorry for the deaths of Pakistani soldiers in American airstrikes in November, the State Department said Tuesday.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/04/world/asia/pakistan-opens-afghan-routes-to-nato-after-us-apology.html

This is a tangible demonstration of Pakistan’s support for a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan and our shared objectives in the region,” Mrs. Clinton said in her statement, noting that waiving any transit fees will allow the United States and NATO to conduct “the planned drawdown at a much lower cost.”
    Yeah, right.

Seems like nothing new. Where does it say the (US) is at fault for the incident? I was under the impression Pakistan was making a bunch of demands. Did they fold? Because I thought the US had regretted the incident and loss of life from the beginning, but not accepting fault for the incident. Oh well, this development is better than not i guess.

Why didn't Obama just bow to them earlier? This could have been taken care of sooner.

Meanwhile Pakistan called drone halts but the CIA is laying plow at a greater rate recently.

I think whoever coined the term "you can't live with them and you can't live without them" had Pakistan on their mind.

Once we are out of Afghanistan, I think we can live without them quite nicely. I hope we strengthen our friendship with India and add Pakistan to the list of state sponsors of terrorism, then hit them with heavy sanctions. Let the Pakis embrace their Chinese allies and become an albatross around their neck instead of ours.

In the end, however, American officials said Pakistan agreed to keep the fee at $250 a truck. In return, the United States is expected to reimburse Pakistani up to $1 billion for costs incurred by some 150,000 Pakistani troops carrying out counterinsurgency operations along the border with Afghanistan, the officials said.

So did Pakistan get $2000 per truck or is it still at $500?

Found this in the article and the numbers are spun completely differently. Amazing no?

Pakistan, stung by the suspension of American military assistance last year, at first demanded a fee of $5,000 for each truck that crossed its territory from the port in Karachi to Afghanistan. Before the November attack, NATO had paid $250. Pakistan later reduced that demand to about $3,000 a truck; the United States had offered $1,000 per vehicle.
We just doubled it from $500 to 1k PER TRUCK - The apology meant zero to either party. Pakistani whores just wanted more money, that's all they've ever cared about.

Those numbers are skewed badly. I'm tempted to dig up other articles showing it was $500 - Hell, I think I'll do that now.

Jun 21, 2010 – Pakistan's ISI served as an arbiter in the Taliban dispute over the New York ... In the HNT contract, firms pay for their own private security, with little oversight ... Among the most significant findings in the report: “security for the US supply ... is $500 per truck from Kandahar to Herat, $50 from Kabul to Ghazni.

Was listening to KPFA radio erlier, they had on somebody from the Pak Gov and a US General talking about this. But it boiled down to the Pak soldiers that got killed.

The General even said pffft and called him out. Said that Pak open up on the helicopters before they even hit the ground.

And Paks excuse, that they thought it was Taliban helos landing...... my jaw hit the floor.

Glad the General also pointed out, that it was ALL on the White House for suxn Paki C0x. The Military stood their ground at calling a spade a spade.

    Disgusting.
