If our government could keep down the waste, fraud and abuse, and encouraged people to get off the program and get back on their own feet there would be a lot less opposition to the food stamp program. Instead, they do the opposite. That is hardly unexpected, as the government always fvcks up everything it touches. Taxpayers are understandably reluctant to see their hard-earned money wasted this way.

On the other hand, perhaps the USDA is just another self-interested group. Increasing their customer base, so to speak.

Cat **** adds that little extra flavor to the salad, that dinner guests always rave about.

Being able to offset most, if not all of ones market veggie bill, is a no brainer if you got time and good sun. Very little space is actually needed.

Ill go back to spending money in the super market buying expensive no taste produce, half of wich was grown outside of the US in places like China and Brazil.

Im soooooo sorry guys, i helped ruin the US.
It was one of the big state court cases that basically meant that everything you do (or don't do) counts as interstate commerce and so could be regulated by congress.

Thats pretty scary, imo. Wonder if the courts decision had anything to do with WW2 shortages and such?

It was a continuation of "the New Deal" policies of the 1930's.

One does wonder just how much FDR's threat to stack the supreme court with friendly judges if they didn't approve of his legislation had to do with some of it.

Well I'm not low income but sorry I'm not in the market to buy a flatscreen TV every week. Also thanks to QE's 1 and 2 I've watched food prices slowly start to rise so I opt for cheaper brands unless there's a sale. Prices have been going up on a lot of stuff over the last few years so most of my big ticket purchases have been made foreseeing this.

They should make people work for those foodstamps/welfare/ etc. That'd be incentive AND the taxpayer would be getting something for their money.

But, but, QE1 & 2 saved the economy! QE 3 will have everybody back to work. You just wait and see. Give Barry four more years and we'll really see the magic start to happen.

And here I thought that not only growing your own produce was the sustainable and healthy thing to do, but that the whole purpose of food stamps was to help people towards self-reliance...

I wonder how much the total war effort, rationing, and laser focus on kicking Nazi and Jap @ss had to do with some decisions? Even Supreme Court ones either directly or indirectly.

Maybe we should have a new Constitutional Ammendment whereby the Supreme Court can be given a mulligan to go back and erase a stupid decision.

We've got a lazy garden.....a wide variety of fruit trees and berry bushes, they're easy......just have to keep the birds off of them.

My wife does the green stuff........she's less lazy than me.

I remember as a young kid in the 70's going to visit all the waxy and gray super ancient old relatives that were always about to die...they always talked about their "government cheese". I'm guessing the government gave away a whole bunch of "Grade D: Fit for human consumption in small quantities" kind of half-life cheese back then.

Sadly, no garden this year, only flowers. I, unlike you bastards, have saved the economy!

Though mom still wants to plant stuff sometime, even though we missed a whole month or two. Maybe I should inform on her to the USDA and be a Good Citizen?
