    Indeed.
Both LEOs and citizens benefit from recording the action. There is no downside, IMO. It would ensure citizen's rights are upheld while protecting the officer in the event they are falsely accused of improper conduct. Win/Win.

I'd like to see all big cities implement some form of "on officer camera" in addition to the dashcams.

Maybe you matched the description of a suspect they were looking for? Sometimes people get felony-stopped while driving with guns drawn and cops shouting at them because they're driving the same car/look like a person. In high school I've been stopped by cops while walking home from school with friends because they got a alarm call/possible burglary on the street I was walking. They just check your ID and let you go. No need to raise your voice at them.

Read up on the1968 case Terry v. Ohio, "suspicion" is different from "probable cause". There's also the "make sure this dink isn't going to stab me while reaching for his wallet" factor.

Back to the topic, every d*ckhead that's getting arrested, or detained, or even questioned by the cops now "feels" they are precious, unique, snowflakes and they are being treated unfairly and their "rights" are being violated.

I'm sorry that you live in a Quentin Tarantino movie and that all the cops there are scary and out to get you.
Yes, it does matter. You live in Vermont, right? Totally different situation compared to East Hollywood. Police are public servants, and the way they interact with the public should reflect this. If I had committed a legitimate crime, then sure, search me, and arrest me if you have to. But if you're wasting my time as well as your own without a probable cause, then I'll take offense. Now, explain to me how I'm a sh!thead punk for knowing my rights and when they are being violated?
If you are being treated unfairly, you are being treated unfairly. I don't think of myself as a "snowflake" (?), far from it, but the fact that I have a clean record (he ran my name) should have been a hint that, hey, I'm not doing anything wrong, don't call me a sh!thead for asserting my rights.
And, NO, I do not think all cops are "out to get me". I've dealt with many fair cops as well. As a matter of fact, I've had a cop skate with me, that was quite an experience. But all the respectful cops I have encountered have been outside my neighborhood, once again, I'll reiterate: East Hollywood has a poor police force.
Live in the area before you're able to make broad assumptions about me and them.

First thing he did was run my drivers permit and verify that I was indeed who I said I was. Plus, he raised his voice when I was questioning him on the probable cause.

So will the ACLU support my rights when this app is used by a third party to violate my rights in regards to audio recording?

Any recording device can be used for good or evil purposes.

I don't think they have gang warfare in Vermont now, do they?

You're the same age as my son, sorry, but you know jacksh*t about anything at your age. And once again, no one needed "probable cause". Sorry but you really seem to be butthurt that a cop didn't address you as "sir". You were asserting rights that you don't have. The more belligerent you act, the more it turns into probable cause.

For the record, I was a cop in Maryland. I went to the Baltimore County Police Academy. You know, that place they filmed the Wire? Yup, just like Mayberry.

In my experience, most cops are cool. There are a few d1ckheads though, as there is in any large group. Respect the good cops and record and expose the d1ckheads (where legal). Just make sure you really know the difference between the two. Sometime a cop doing his job may seem brusque or impolite. Put yourself in their shoes and think what it would be like dealing with pissed off people, scumbags, drunks, addicts and arrogant teenagers for an hours-long shift. Only use the recording if they have clearly and willfully violated the law, department policy and/or your rights.

What does that comment have to do with my question?
