So, a German gave us our name?
At least he didn't name the country after himself.
Can you imagine having to write "United States of Waldseemüller" ?

The Map That Named America
Library Acquires 1507 Waldseemüller Map of the World
By JOHN R. HÉBERT
In late May 2003 the Library of Congress completed the purchase of the only surviving copy of the first image of the outline of the continents of the world as we know them today— Martin Waldseemüller's monumental 1507 world map.
The map has been referred to in various circles as America's birth certificate and for good reason;
it is the first document on which the name "America" appears.
It is also the first map to depict a separate and full Western Hemisphere and the first map to represent the Pacific Ocean as a separate body of water. The purchase of the map concluded a nearly century-long effort to secure for the Library of Congress that very special cartographic document which revealed new European thinking about the world nearly 500 years ago.

Happy 4th everyone
Have a nice one!
Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!
[crowd cheers]
So hungry for BBQ, but none is forthcoming!
And fireworks...I may not be able to see the fireworks today!

Happy 4th of July Amerikanci!
We were just riding around Main St. in Huntington Beach and within an hour I saw 3 people arrested for either open container or drunk in public. Cops everywhere, be careful and stay safe MP.net. I am going back to HB and work on not getting arrested.
These are must sees.
