very cool. Thanks for posting. My father in law (now deceased) sailed on the USS Kitkun Bay, CVE71 (an escort carrier) but was not part of its crew (he was a gunner on aircraft), that that ship was attacked and hit by a Kamakazi aircraft.

    Scary stuff.
I'm not sure what to think of the men who volunteered for Kamikaze flights.

Nationalism in any country is a potent force, in Japan during and just prior to WWII it was extremely high due to devotion to the Emperor (as well as a long record of success in the region).....and any country could have (IMHO) done the same with heightened at home media propaganda such as was found in Japan, USA, Germany, UK, Soviet Union. To save the homeland from those characterized Yankee invaders who would kill the Emperor, rape the women and had were firebombing the homeland. I can easily see how they were willing to sacrifice one or two men in suicide missions to destroy a huge aircraft carrier or whatever. Very similar things have happened through out history, and continue today. Just my 2 cents.

I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been when your enemy resorts to such tactics.

I do remember seeing a longer clip where the pilot is ejected out after the plane hit the water.

Correct and USN Ship attempted to rescue him and decided to detonate a grenade instead ..

The footage is taken from the DVD .... Kamikaze - Devine Wind .. ,
