Tuesday July 3rd marked the arrival of the first aircraft at RIAT 2012 when the Colombian Air Force C-130H Hercules touched down. It's especially welcome as this will be the first time the South American nation has participated at the Air Tattoo.

There will be some unusual planes flying in the skies around Tucson and Davis-Monthan next week, as the base welcomes members of the Colombian Air Force.
Eight Colombian Air Force Kfir Fighter jets will be operating from Davis-Monthan's Operation Snowbird facilities next week. In addition to the fighters will be two tankers, one airlift aircraft and about 130 Colombian Air Force personnel. They will be here training for the next two weeks, in anticipation of their participation in a Red Flag exercise at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

These pilots and personnel will comply with all of the base's traffic patterns and noise abatement procedures. It is not out of the ordinary to see 'strange' aircraft flying in the Tucson skies, Operation Snowbird facilities are used by units for training on future deployments. Davis-Monthan and surrounding sites offer an edge to military units who are training for deployment, the terrain here is similar to what they would encounter overseas.
