This is interesting: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...rved-military/
My contention has to do with the political climate at the time. Like today, politics rule, Americans dying in some far off land did not matter. When the politicians and media are a active part in the anti-war movement, it effects the willingness of people to volunteer. Kind of like Kerry, "I voted for the war before I voted against the war." While Romney may be a far greater flip flopper than Kerry, Kerry betrayed his brothers. I would have respected him more if he would have owned up to his part of Viet-Nam Vets against the war and not come off as some kind of military hero ready to lead this country in it's new wars.
In the late 60's and early 90's to serve our country was a sin. It was not until the Gulf War, that is was OK to have served. To me supporting the troops is not about BS like Nugent and others. It is about supporting our troops. During the Bush Administration, shame on those who used the troops to bash Bush. I will also say shame on those who use the troops today to bash Obama. I have no use for our elected Elite.......... But I have tremendous respect and support for those who serve.
The best critique of WWI and it sometimes holds true now, If the soldiers did a about face their guns would be pointed in the right direction.
So I will let all of you political D's and R's piss on each other leg, tell each other it is raining, while American's blood is being spilled on some distant land.
I can understand why someone would have avoided the draft.......... Look at our politics today, it is worse than back then.
1-st time i heard of him was "Simpsons", he's my role model now.
Nuge might be a wee bit embarrassing at times but I'd rather hang out with him than Alec Bawin.
