Looks like a Stabsfähnrich (Staff Ensign) of a "Motor Rifle" unit.

On second glance the light grey piping on the edge makes it 'Air defence forces' (motorized infantry wore white).

Sorry about that, I've had no use for this knowledge since the wall fell.

Thanks for the info, its always of some use to collectors and students of military history.

I also picked up a "Stasi" Olive Green combat uniform, with clip in liner, and with correct epaulettes

from the same shop for about 4 Euro as well. Must search for pictures to add here.
