What they need to do now is make a portable launcher a single man can carry and use for this round.
This is the kind of weapon system that I would of imagined that Iraq and Afghanistan would of accelerated or spurred on so as to have been already widely deployed by now. It's becoming more and more life threatening for those who bump heads with the most modern armies.
Despite the rather cheesy animation, the idea of simply developing ABM munition and corresponding laser sights for a allready existing and combat proven Grenade Launcher like the HK GMG is something remarkably useful for today's defense industry.
They really showed it the jetski and the balloons! Interesting system.
Yep, plus wasn't there some concern that the 25mm round for the XM-25 was a little light on the boom boom?
I know the USMC was asking about a 40mm version.
It would be interesting to see if they could make the programming kit small enough to fit on a UGL...even if it's just a one shot and reload type.
Silly me. Rheinmetall building a XM25-like weapon for 40mm programmable airburst ammo doesn't make much sense, in my opinion. Instead Rheinmetall should continue with the development of smart infantry ammunitions, while HK works on an improved AG36 with FCU (which may up as a stand-alone weapon due to size, weight). Cooperation among German defense companies on this field is definitively a good thing. Even if it will result in an export-only system.
You can't win war with logic though, otherwise the Taliban would have given up long before the thought about war with us. It's their religious duty to die in battle against us, at least that's what some of them believe anyway. They can care less about "winning" Martyrdom is already the highest of the high to them...
But back on topic, where is the actual testing video of this? From what I can decipher here this is still an early prototype (maybe just speculation). I know similar systems have been tested and proven, but what about this one? Anyone can make the animations do exactly what they want, in order to describe what something should do... So what does it really do?Some actual testing footage would be better is all I'm saying.
There is a single German word summing this up, "Weichziele"![]()
