A yearlong job search in Russia has yet to yield results for Daniel Campbell, a resident of Northern Ireland looking for new opportunities outside his home country.Like many of their European peers, Britain and Ireland are struggling economically."Employment in Ireland is very competitive. Northern Ireland has the highest unemployment rate within the United Kingdom," said Campbell, a 23-year-old human resources specialist. "Most of my friends have immigrated or plan to immigrate to Australia, America, Canada or elsewhere," he said.Despite its exorbitant prices and eternal traffic jams, Moscow has become a magnet for foreigners seeking jobs, as unemployment in Europe is hitting record highs amid the debt crisis."We've been particularly busy bringing foreigners over the last six months," said Gethin Jones, director of Troika Relocations, which helps foreigners move to Russia and settle in.Both Jones and Moscow-based headhunters said the stable growth of Russia's economy has encouraged foreign specialists to look for new opportunities here.The number of new resumes submitted by foreigners seeking employment in Russia increased 11 percent last year. That is a rebound from a 60 percent decline in 2010, according to online recruiting company HeadHunter.

interesting. i am surprised though that russian companies would hire people who cant speak russian (?). and does one earn a lot in russia, especially moscow? i take it you would need to have a wage similar to what you'd earn in western europe to have enough money to live in moscow?
Actually, a lot higher, since Moscow is a pretty expensive city to live in. My company uses the increased pay as an incentive for a post in Moscow, but everyone knows its due to the cost of living.Originally Posted by TheEngineer

There are a lot of western companies working in Russia. Many of them using English as language for internal communications, for documents etc. Russians working there usually use both Russian and English.
Russian companies hire foreigners as sales managers/representatives/etc to work with west, so not so much people are needed.
Salaries are good, 2k euro minimum, I think. Enough to live comfortably. But... with crazy estate prices these moneys are not so much. So if you want to buy flat/house in Moscow, well, its not nearly enough
On the side note, when I was in Petersburg I saw pretty good prices for estates on metro advertisements. Maybe working there wouldn´t be that bad.
We have more capitalism nowadays than in w. Europe)) If company need skills of foreigners-it well hire him\her.
Btw big, if not the biggest, part of all new houses are being built by guys who knows only three words in Russian.
Tax is 13%. Less than in W.E. I guess.

There is no sense to buy a flat in Moscow, if only you are not investing money, but it would be enough money to rent some good one, buy a car and so on.
What's with the decree of Putin that wanted to install an exam in Russian language as a prerequisitite to get a working permit in RF? Did it become a law etc?
De-facto nope. And never will be with current situation in migration. This is the most corrupted part of state mechanisms I think. You could easily find some "helping bureau" for immigrants even in center of city which will help you to solve all problems with papers for some money.
Even if it would became a law - it will be pure profanation.
Just checked: no, you don't need to pass the exam.
