long-story-short, the Canadian military Oakley discount site (OakleyForces.ca) doesn't do prescriptions, so I'd have to go to a local Oakley-authorized optometrist and pay $390.00 for one Rx lens (M-Frame strike, to be specific), and I was hoping to get two (clear and dark). supposedly USSI does them for like $125.00 each, give or take.

not really expecting a response but thought I'd throw it out there. of course I'd pay for individual shipping my way from the person who ordered, as well as tip a little.

to mods, not trying to sell anything here. if this post is still inappropriate I can take it down, just asking for a little help
That's about the same price for Ray Bans too. The issued ones that bad? Sorry I can't help though.

issued BEWs with prescription inserts? yeah, pretty bad. I've tried all the home remedies others use, but it just doesn't work for me. doesn't help much that my Asian face has long eyelashes, which just adds to the problems...

Default Eye protection in the Military

Hands down, the brand of eye protection seen most often in pictures of the U.S. Military is Oakley. Whether clear, grey or dark lens. In the refineries I've worked in, this lens technology, (regardless of brand), has saved my sight 3 times, (acid drop, impact and molten flying projectile). My open question is this: are the glasses issued or bought personally by the soldier? And if not issued, what is issued instead?

    Thanks in advance

Oakleys are not CIF or RFI issued, at least in the US Army. Thus far ive only been issued ESS (or was it CSS?) and Revision's Sawfly for my deployments. The latter being pretty much ****e.

ESS, Revision, and UVEX (sh1t) are as far as I know issued with CIF. But that was in 2008, I am sure stuff has changed since then.

Some units have had them open purchased. I bought my own pair of gas cans. They are tough, affordable and comfortable.

We had them issued after purchased from open sources as ratt mentions. All depends on the unit, funds and so forth.

From what I have seen, and I'm sure it comes down to unit policy, but ESS, Wiley X, and Oakley's are pretty well the norm.

I've been issued ESS, Revision, and Oakley M Frames (I've got at least 5 pairs of Oakleys). IMO, the Revision glasses are EXTREMELY uncomfortable, but they get the job done. The Oakleys are nice, but it's hard to get replacement smoked lenses, unless you buy out of pocket. The ESS fall somewhere in the middle.

There's an "Approved Eyewear Protection List" (APEL) that lists all of the approved protective glasses.

Ray Ban doesn't provide ballistic protection.
