North Korea's army chief Ri Yong-Ho has been removed from all his posts due to illness, the communist state's official news agency said Monday.

A meeting of the ruling party's decision-making body on Sunday decided to "relieve Ri Yong-Ho of all his posts... for his illness", said the agency.

The posts included "member of the presidium of the political bureau, member of the political bureau of the (central committee of the Workers' Party of Korea) and vice-chairman of the central military commission of the (Workers' Party of Korea)," said the agency.

The Workers' Party of Korea is the North's ruling party.

Ri, a central figure in the regime who became army head in 2009, was recently seen accompanying the North's new leader Kim Jong-Un as he paid tribute to his late grandfather Kim Il-Sung on the anniversary of his death in 1994.

One thing to consider is that he may have vetoed any other action against the South and so was removed from power, was reading the other day that in recent weeks they have been increasing the message in the North capital and rural area's of readying to push for final victory.. Also earlier this year one report indicated that before the North tried anything else against the South or further provocation that the North would likely have one more set of purges to remove all those who would not tow the party line and orders of Kim.

Dude. I know my title is "warmonger" but every Korea thread you start is always full of fear mongering and you never provide the sources to back up your claims about the north stoking up the people for a "final push". It all just seems like a hysterical opinion coming from you. Unless you have the sauce, then I am happy to apologise.

First off I posted the news when it was breaking and did not have enough information to confirm enough information but I did provide link about the news story about the general being removed once one was posted and the remark about the increase in propaganda and urging the people to ready for victory was from a private twitter message from a reporter currently reporting in the capital through my friends in the press and VOA..

but I do agree my comments were a little off the mark yesterday but they were right on one account in that the general had stood up against Kim recently and it could likely be one of the reasons for his being removed from power, going by this news report at this link http://www.sfgate.com/business/bloom...ft-3710685.php it seems Kim has wanted to start to deploy the military across the country to help with construction and improvements and this is something the General had apposed..

Also not all my posts about Korea are panicking I just post the news as they break and often do provide links to press releases as they become available.

I've noticed that too. No offense to you ISNJH, cause I like you and find you to be one of the more reasonable Korean Nationalists. But sometimes there is just a little too much glee in your posts. Kinda give off the vibe that "preppers" and "survivalist" gives when they talk about SHTF. You were no where near the level of gloating our friend slowman gave when he was posting dead Chinese children, but Nacho-Libre is not alone in his observation.

    Something to think about.

No problem RNZE I understand what you guys mean, also one thing I am not a Korean I am American its just I have friends in ROK so Korea is a great interest to me and I worry about the security situation over there and what is means for the region.

This is a small update on the removal of general and also it seems he might not have gone without putting up a fight!

N.Korean Army Chief 'Refused to Go Quietly

A gunbattle broke out when the North Korean regime removed army chief Ri Yong-ho from office, leaving 20 to 30 soldiers dead, according to unconfirmed intelligence reports. Some intelligence analysts believe Ri, who has not been seen since his abrupt sacking earlier this week, was injured or killed in the confrontation.

According to government officials here, the gunbattle erupted when Vice Marshal Choe Ryong-hae, the director of the People's Army General Political Bureau, tried to detain Ri in the process of carrying out leader Kim Jong-un's order to sack him. Guards protecting Ri, who is a vice marshal, apparently opened fire. "We cannot rule out the possibility that Ri was injured or even killed in the firefight," said one source.
