Because I have nothing to hide, I find myself oddly gratified that someone can tell that that is the remnants of a BLT on my hands, and not Symtex, gunpowder or C4. The potential in the medical field is to be applauded, and I look forward to it's incorporation into the tool box of aggressive preventive medicine.
Yes, Big Brother is watching, but if you are just figuring that out, you ain't been paying attention.

I suppose it's better than going through a microwave, or being ******ly assaulted, but how long until these pop up on city streets?

Not sure what you mean. I link to news articles that I think are interesting enough to be worthy of discussion. If that is not enough for you, perhaps you should contribute and post your own news articles.

Unfortunately, in regard to gate scanners and intimate body frisks, I think the LASER scanner will be 'in addition to', not 'in lieu of''.

I think what he means is that you should put your own comments down on the article as well and not just post a one liner article link. Calm down man.

Billions to satisfy paranoia, and yet this probably also won't catch anybody...

The way I see it, this detection will depend on the software implementation. So someone will need to tell the software how to identify an "egg sandwich" from "C4" from a crowd of molecular excitations. So it will be to stringent and beep every 5 seconds or to loose and not catch anyone. In a laboratory situation (cancer detection) you have more control. I assume the laser will not that powerful or have a high frequency (like X rays) to be harmful.

Can it be that all these electronic scanners are like safety belts in cars ?... the safer people feel behind the wheel, the careless they are when driving. Just hire and train more people. And then let them use their own judgment who is a threat and who is not (nobody cares about contraband - it should be about safety; for contraband you have dogs and pigs).

If Big Brother is watching, pluck his eye out. Saying "I have nothing to hide..." is not the way to deal with the problem.
Read some books or watch some documentaries on surveillance societies (Stalinist Russia, Communist Romania or probably todays N.Korea for example) to find out how screwed up they become when trust is removed from the equation.

I for one do have things to hide so I don't like this one bit! Nothing illegal or even immoral, but I still have things to hide.

Settle pettle. Like the others have said, give us your opinion on the articles. Othewise it's essentially spam.
