From what position was the woman able to make these observations from?

His excuse sounds plausible. Tough it seems not to uncommon for 'some' to do that. I've heard from various such incidents. Even one case where one guy had an accident and then tried to run away from the scene with pants down. Or this fella here:

I used to drive trucks myself during the semester breaks. And it can be really really boring chugging along with 90 - 100 km/h for hours. When we where driving in pairs in the military we sometimes played cards. But beating one's meat is the pinnacle. And I suspect people doing this in vehicles either think they are invisible from the outside or have some mental disorder .

I had a second look at the article. They released his name, but not hers.
Now, I understand the idea behind releasing the name of the accused in a court of law, but not for this... Did this get to court?

tluassa might be right! Releasing his name but not hers, in this situation of his word vs. her word, can be considered as a form of public punishment.

P.S.> Can the guy accuse her of smearing his name? In which case, since I doubt she can prove anything, would she be liable for making an official complaint?

Gives the technique "blastbeat" a whole new meaning.
