I agree with you sir...it is a war. What do they expect? They started the freakin war, and once engaged we owe it to our troops and to our civilians to kill as many of them in whatever way possible, fast, and lethal. I mean if they had turned themselves in...they could have gone to prison right? But they decided to fight, in civilian clothing as a terrorist. Bad decision = bad ending for them.

THe insurgents know exaclty what is happening, they see this type of aircraft every other day... Just like bayonetting the enemy when taking the trench to ensure he is dead, the Bird fired into the enemy. Such is war. The target discrimination was spot on. I would love to have this Apache callsign covering my ass any day.

Is it likely that if one of those Talibans had thrown down his weapon and lay down on the ground spread eagle, would they still have shot him? Really, how can the pilots, in a situation like this, even figure out that someone wants to surrender.

But then again, it was their dumbasses fault for thinking that fighting in a "Jihadist" war would be easy and fun; Unless some of the people there were forced into joining the Taliban under the penalty of death.
They chose us as their enemies.

I wouldn't be surprise if they still would.

You also have to remember that this helicopter is firing from over a mile away, that's almost naked to the human eyes. So just because these Taliban are used to seeing the helicopter everyday doesn't mean they will know what hit them.

Internet commandos know more than you and me.

I think those Apache crews were spot on.

I do not believe you can surrender to aircraft anyways.

In these FLIR vids, how far away are the helos? I mean, I know they have stealth mode, but are they as close and therfore as quiet as they seem to be? Or are the enemy just blind, dumb, deaf and stupid?

Real question: what is the general distance from the enemy?

    Thanks

[QUOTE=ljrmisty;6274444 I know they have stealth mode [/QUOTE]

I knew it, even if it was daylight the cloaking device was activated and they wouldn't have seen the choppers.

according to delay between shot sound and hit (about 1 second), and using formula: distance = delay * 30mm_projectile_velocity, you ll get the result. do not know velocity, estimating - 1000 m/sec.... so it is about 1-1.2 km.

That was not the point. Did i said that it was illegal ? If it is in your combat doctrine manual, it is in your combat doctrine manual.
The thing is this is still bad PR when it is accessible to a large civilian audience that has no clue about RoE
