Default Re-Organisation of the Irish Defence Forces.

Hi all just looked at press release on Re-Org of Defence Forces (Its on Irish Defence Forces Members and Ex Members on Facebook) and 3 Battalion's are no more, they are 2 Inf Bn, 4 Inf Bn and 5 Inf Bn.

In the 2nd Inf Brigade are:-

The 2 Inf Battalion and the 5 Infantry Battalion will become the 7 Infantry Bn.
2nd Cav Sqn, 2 CIS Coy and 7 Infantry Bn in Cathal Brugha, (Dublin)
6 Infantry Bn, 2 Field Artillery Regiment, 2 Engineer Group Athlone, 27 Infantry Battalion at Dundalk, (with) a Infantry Company at Gormanston Camp and the 28 Inf Battalion in Donegal.

The 1 Infantry Brigade will have 1 Field Artillery Regiment, 1 Cavalry Sqn, 1 Engineer Group and 1 CIS Coy in Collins Barracksks Cork.

1 Infantry Bn at Galway, 3 Infantry Bn at Kilkenny and 12 Infantry Bn at Limerick.

Sad times for the Irish Defence Forces where 4 Military Barracks were closed this year so far.

Am I right when I say that it is because of government cuts because of the debt crisis? Countries usually pick armed forces as first for their cuts.

This will further hinder UN peacekeeping efforts worldwide. The Irish have always provided some of the best soldiers for those operations.
