Default CEO of Lenovo Gives Away Bonus to Employees

    ..........
Yang Yuanqing distributed $3 million from his bonus among 10,000 junior-level employees, the China-based technology company confirmed Thursday. The employees, such as receptionists, production-line workers and assistants, each received an average bonus of 2,000 yuan, which is $314, in the name of their CEO.

Cool story, but such bonuses are nothing special. And it's pretty sad that the CEO is paying it out of his own pocket. The great success of a company should always be in motion with benefits for the workers.

Last year alone workers at Porsche and Audi got 8000€, BMW around 6000€, Mercedes around 4000€ in bonuses and that's not just for some office monkeys but for everyone down to the assembly line workers.

You ever use one? I've owned a Lenovo SL510 and aside from wanting to upgrade the RAM I think it's great. Plus lots of my computer geek friends swear by their business T-series laptops.

Anyways, good on him, why do I get the feeling he'd be getting more accolades here if it wasn't a Chinese company?

Tell that to HP. They are making crappy computers.

Gah, I despise having to deal with Lenovo's customer service, the worse ever in my experiences.

The trick with any tech support is to use their online chat, not phone or email. Granted if you are on the effected comp that can preclude a different solution, but everyone that you are likely to encounter in a support environment can type in english.

I deal with HP, Lenovo, Dell, Xerox, Minolta...and chat is the way to go.

And good for the exec to kick down his bonus to the peons. Wish my company would do something nice like that.

Thinkpads and Elitebooks are excellent machines. Not the brand makes the difference but the willing to pay $1700

I think the point was a CEO was willing to forgo money that he is entitled to - to the benefit of his employees. Not whether or not Lenovo is compensating its employees out of its own coffers in a manner comparable to other companies.

Germanic auto-manufacturers also tend to enjoy a different sort of labor union - so performance based bonuses are indeed not unusual.

Ive had a thinkpad for a couple of years. Excellent machine. I replaced it because the hardware was getting old. I got myself a hp with much better hardware, a year later, now, i just want to throw it out of the window.

I have HP Pavilion laptop that died only after 2 years of works. And had a Compaq laptop(that already was part of HP at that moment) prior that although lived longer then that but with some functions dead. Like not being able to read CDs, only DVDs for some reason. Still better then at HP though. DVDrom there didnt even bother to open after some time.
And Internet is full of topics of some HPs laptops generations being trash that was stopping to work after a year or so.

True. I also wonder about the propaganda value and timing of this redistribution of wealth.

German entrepreurship has often a different ethical background than business-owners and managers in other countries...

BTW, my cheap ass Lenovo notebook is 4 years old and apart from the Battery it's rock solid... I'd buy another Lenovo machine anytime.
