I dont know about giving them 7 years for illegal concert and blasphemy. But for their bad singing - they belong behind the bars.

You should inform everybody in Russia then.

    Anyway, Seven years? Blasphemy?

Their only crime is Hooliganism under Article 213, Blasphemy is not part of the Russian Criminal code, this is Moscow not Grozny.

BTW, how is this hooliganism, exactly? Have they damaged something, trespassed in a forbidden area?

Hooliganism as I recall is inciting hatred via weapons or media to create “public disorder.”

And after reading the lyrics of their song, I can see how the persecution arrived to that conclusion.

The altar would be forbidden area I believe yes

Personally to what I can understand of the situation, they basically did something which is pretty disrespectful to many People regardless of the 'merit' of what they are saying....
To me it would be a bit like running with my shoes to the Minarets of a Mosque to denounce Terrorist actions.... Firstly the message while fair is done in a way that is completely insensitive to the traditions of the institution and those whom care about them
secondly you are just trolling for a response and well when it explodes in your face I have little sympathy.....

While this does seem like it is being politicised the thing I think many have to remember is how much comes straight from the top and how much is being carried out in situations by figures lower on the chain whom are eager to stamp out any threats to even their position (Note: The current system does benefit some people who might just be a little bit protective of it, even if the leadership at the top has differing views)... Basically I just would not rush to conclusions on things (even if it is in cases quite likely)

The fact is I think the fact they are a band and particulary of Women whom oppose Putin = Good, Democracy Loving Activists etc in the eyes of most People and their sins are all forgiven as they fight the evil tyrant hidden in his castle

Hooliganism is a very broad article in the Russian Criminal Code, used to penalize many different crimes, from assault and battery to trespassing. The highest punishment (7 years) is for those portions of the hooliganism article which carry the most harm (like assault).

This is what I find most disingenuous.

When a neo-nazi punk who beat up a Tajik market trader gets charged with hooliganism, the Western media scoffs at this, saying "oh, just hooliganism, they are allowing nazis to go unpunished" without mentioning the penalty of 7 years in jail.

When a case like this happens, the media immediately forgets that hooliganism is "nothing" and only ever mentions the highest term of punishment as if that is the only sentence that can be gotten.

Hooliganism is a very broad article of the code with various degrees of crime and punishment, depending on the portion of the article being applied.

Sorry, but that is BS. Nobody is supporting their disrespectful protest in the church. What people are shocked at is the fact that they are facing a possible seven year prison sentence for it.

Firstly my view is simply my view, Women tend to often provoke a more sensitive response from many and anything which is anti Putin tends to provoke a positive response from others aswell....

As to the question of the sentance, thats for the Courts and People to decide..... I think it seems rather over the top but I have neither really investigated entirely all that they did nor the full laws and as thus I will not speak on the fairness or harshness of the punishment
