Sorry, I meant to post this in 'Off Topic and Humor'. Can someone move it, please?
We get a lot of posts about this sort of stuff. A compilation thread seems warranted.

Good idea, I though something like the "Armed Citizen" would work. Generally when we hear about something, it is when it has gone bad or was bad to begin with. I listened to a German psychologist one time, he was anti-firearm but............ He stated that getting rid of firearms is not the answer, it is violence. That is what needs to dealt with. Getting rid of firearms to fix violence is akin to putting a bandage on gangrene and calling it good.
Thanks Ought Six. Good idea.

Woman stops active shooter in Colorado Church

Police describe a chaotic scene with smoke bombs going off outside the New Life Church moments before Matthew Murray began firing in a rampage that killed two and wounded three others Sunday.http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7682958Police say Murray, 24, of Englewood, was the lone gunman in both cases.
The similarities between the events of the Aurora shooting, and the New Life Church shooting are almost identical. Except in this case there was an armed security guard which prevented an untold amount of carnage.
Funny how this got next to no news coverage.

None of these articles will come out of California.
Hey hey hey!
Of course we are allowed to protect ourselves. Its just the financial ruin that the ambulance chasers and bass ackwards DA's will run you through, let alone the hoops to get your firearm back, will just make you wish that you didnt defend yourself and died at the hands of the entitled.

Cop gets assaulted with gun pointed at him - shoots perp in self defence.
I wish there had been someone who was licensed to carry a firearm present at the theatre in Aurora last night.
I took my .45 to see Batman with me this evening. The audience caused no trouble, and a cop even came in at the very end.
There might have been any number of legally armed citizens, but from what I've read the suspect popped off some smoke bombs and started shooting while it was still dark. In all honesty, I probably would've gotten flat and waited for him to come to me, rather than shoot a long way with poor visibility and panicked people running to and fro.
I do not see the relevance. I think there's nothing that can be done about these shootings. You'd either have to prohibit the bearing of arms or hand out so many licences that a gunman will always walk into an armed citizen wherever he strikes, but neither of the two options can provide absolute security.
My point is that incidents like this don't serve as an argument for or against gun control because no matter which of the two the future will bring, there's no way to give a hundred percent guarantee that Aurora won't happen again.
