Default Romney donor bashed by Obama campaign now target of two federal audits.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012...ederal-audits/

"An Idaho businessman singled out by the Obama campaign for giving $1 million in support of Mitt Romney is now the focus of IRS and Labor Department audits.

Frank VanderSloot, in an interview with FoxNews.com on Tuesday, said he received the initial audit notice from the IRS last month. Two weeks later, he got one from the Labor Department stating the agency would be looking into records related to foreign employees working at his Idaho Falls cattle ranch.

It might all be a coincidence, he said -- but the timing was peculiar."

Talk about abuse of power. But then that's SOP for Barry.

The Obama campaign is now marshaling the power of the office of the presidency against private citizens — using the Obama campaign’s “Truth Team” to target individual Romney donors and supporters in a way that is alarmingly reminiscent of Richard Nixon’s “Enemies List” — as documented in a May 10th piece by the Wall Street Journal’s Kimberly Strassel.
As part of its reelection effort during the 1972 presidential campaign, the Nixon White House was instructed to keep a White House Enemies list of political opponents – comprised of a top 20 list for special attention and another list of about 200 “Political Opponents” organized in categories. As then-White House Counsel John Dean described it, they would “use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.”

Strassel: The President Has a List
Barack Obama attempts to intimidate contributors to Mitt Romney's campaign.
Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.
Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for "betting against America," and accuses you of having a "less-than-reputable" record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.

    Are you worried?

No, a dictator would have this gentleman taken from his home in the middle of the night and disappeared. What the president is doing, is taking a very high profile donor, and putting him up to a legal litmus test. If this guy FAILS the test, then it opens the Obama campaign up with the option of saying "See, assholes who cheat on their taxes vote for the other guy". If he passes the audit you wont hear anything about it again. Its a clever move and one im surprised isnt used more often.

Does the president do that with his donors as well? or just his opponents because I could see Soros failing miserably among others from overseas. It isnt used much because it smacks of abuse of office

So in other words, it's politics as normal during election time.

So can politicians order an independent government body to launch investigations like this in the US?

One person's statistically coincidence, bring in a couple more instances and you might begin to have a case.

Otherwise you're essentially subscribing to the idea that all major republican (and by extension democrat) donor's should be off the audit list during election time.

Many people think Clinton's administration was guilty of exactly that:
