    It's for rifle grenades, not the 40mm HE like we're used to today.

    Propably for range adgastement. The further down you pur it the longer it will go, or something like that

    NATO has a list of 'STANAG' items, probably takes a simple muzzle attachment. I know the French still use rifle grenades with their FA-MAS rifles.
