In theory even today all NATO 5.56 rifles are supposed to have a ring allowing the fire of 58mm rifle grenade.

Propably for range adgastement. The further down you pur it the longer it will go, or something like that

NATO has a list of 'STANAG' items, probably takes a simple muzzle attachment. I know the French still use rifle grenades with their FA-MAS rifles.
