If things keep flowing in this direction for Chinese Industry, soon or later others might face anti-trust allegations..

German auto giant Volkswagen has become the victim of industrial espionage in China, where its local partner has allegedly stolen engine designs, the business daily Handelsblatt reported on Friday.
For several months now, Chinese group FAW -- with which VW has a joint venture -- is believed to have copied one of the German group's engines in what sources described as "systematic and planned" espionage, the newspaper said.
FAW plans to sell a model equipped with the engines in Russia, in competition with VW and Skoda models, the report continued.
"It's quite simply a catastrophe," it quoted a VW manager as saying.
China is VW's most important export market and it sold a total 2.26 million cars there last year.
China does not allow foreign automakers to build their own cars there but requires them to work together with domestic companies in joint ventures where the Chinese partner holds the majority stake.
Contacted by AFP about the Handelsblatt article, a VW spokesman said: "We're examining the issue very closely. On the other hand, we've always worked together with FAW very successfully and very trustfully in the past."Now that's a new dimension of Chinese copy-paste business policy.

Chinese company stole stuff from a foreign company? I'm shocked, no really.......
Hence the sarcasm in my post.
Though stealing from a partner out of a joint venture really is a bit thicker than their usual forgery.
Lol, I was sarcastic too. And have they not done this before? I thought they had with apple products?
I can't say I feel any sympathy for VW. Stupid is as stupid does, really. Whoever still cooperates with Chinese companies should meanwhile know the risks and has no one to blame but himself, when his plans or blueprints or products are stolen/copied.
So what?
Germany did the same when we were on the rise.
Industrial espionage only forces them to be more innovative in order to keep the edge.

I don't think a design rip-off is as damnable as technological theft. Car makers have a legitimate cause to catch the latest wave with regard to eye candy and let's be honest, it's quite difficult to design a car that doesn't look similiar to another. Even those their manufacturers aren't accused of plagiarism look rather resemblant to each other...
... Let me Guess. A perfect look a like, with certain quality and offerred to a buying public which cannot afford the real deal (K9 is US market oriented) is going to be less damageable than a car that is aimed at a less well off public (Russia), which does not see the visible quality (as the Car will be mainly Chinese) is going to be less damageable image and output wise? How did that worked out for Ssang Yong with its licenced Mercedes Engine but ****ty second rate Korean finish?
That will will teach them to work with those who don't give a fuk ... and will steal from you ..
