Default German Cruise Line Captain fired for refusing to haul down german flag

    Sadly only in german
    http://www.welt.de/wirtschaft/articl...umschiffs.html

    A true german hero
But still a sad story, the Cruise Liner "Deutschland" (Germany) is going to operate under the Maltese flag for tax reasons after its owner went bankrupt.
It was the last german flagged large passenger vessel anyway, but I guess its target group is simply dying out.

The ship is currently in the London Docklands and some sort of unofficial german representative for the Olympics.
It seems the shipping line has been infected with the London Spirit of Olympic Fail.

While I can understand the financial reasons I also think they should appeal to the Maltese Navy for protection next time they cross the Horn of Africa

Some months ago the German government publicly considered not to render assistance to German-owned vessels in the piracy infested waters of the Arab sea if they sail under foreign flags for financial reasons. We should have adopted that policy.

The AIDA (same company as Costa Concordia) or "Mein Schiff" cruises are actually doing well.
Deutschland catered to pensioners of the old WW2 and 1950s generations.
Those are entering an age when they're no longer fit to cruise and I guess most 68ers who are now the right age would have to be driven aboard at gun point when the ship is named "Deutschland"

    MS Rudi Dutschke?

The ship is called "Deutschland" and some of you are hopping up and down about the name, let it go you ****ers, the war is actually over if you missed the ****ing memo, if it was called "SS Sieg Heil Hitlerschif 18 88" then I would get your scorched ****es over the name, but wind it in.

    Are you drunk?
Nobody here was complaining about the name.

On topic, at least the Deutschland naming confusion is now over as there's only one german ship left with that name, a sailing vessel that hasn't sailed since 1945 or something.

But just read that here official name is "Schulschiff Deutschland" because as she was build in 1927, there was allready the Pocket Battleship of the same name under construction

The idea to create a little copy of the real world in the middle of the sea is pathetic.
Like tourists booking in clubs isolated from the country.

A drastic move, seeing as German companies own a f**k-ton of vessels with foreign flag.
