Was it "Death Traps" by Belton Cooper?

I think I remember reading about it there.

I did read that, but I also read some criticism. I lean towards the guys on the ground at the time.

"Willie Peter makes you a believer."
We also referred to it as "Wilson Pickett."
Primary use was to mark targets or adjust fire.
In today's kinder, gentler, warfare, it's illegal to shoot people with it.

That is the first book I thought of when I started reading this thread....I got my copy out and looked for anything in the index on WP and found zero in the index. I read the entire book but that was some months ago and can't remember every detail. The book does have some good photos of battle damage to both American and German tanks, stunning damage in fact.

One of my old commanding officers was Col. Jimmie Leach, who was a tank commander under Patton. I also knew another Sherman tank driver who was at Bastogne whom I worked for on construction job decades ago.

It was an interesting read. I found the details about repairing damaged tanks very interesting.

Holy lugnut, this is almost as bad as Tom Hanks firing his Thompson through 50cm+ of bullet proof glass.

    Hatches have locks.

    I wasn't asking for a critique.

The hatch was open. Even the Americans who ambushed the vehicle found this to be an inexcusable lapse.
