Thread: Philippines signed 5-yr deal with Italy for frigate, destroyer, fighter-bombers, UAVs

Default Philippines signed 5-yr deal with Italy for frigate, destroyer, fighter-bombers, UAVs

Gazmin, together with a team from the DND’s newly-formed Acquisition Defense System, went to Italy to sign a five-year contract with that country’s Defense Ministry for the acquisition of fighter-bomber jets, a frigate, a destroyer and unmanned surveillance aircrafts, among others.

Italy dont have fighter-bomber jets, unless you call trainers as fighter-bombers.

And I dont believe Italy has any UAVs eithe, unless you call remote-controlled model aircraft toys you can get from super-markets as UAVs.

    So unprofessional.

Have these frigates been updated by the Italians? They have some good systems on them, but if they have the original electronics, they would be somewhat dated. Perhaps a refit is part of the deal?

Italy does have fighter-bombers. They have AMX (but admittedly more a ground-attacker) and a EFT tranche 1 block 5 that is a real fighter but limited A-G capabilities. AMX is more likely but who knows maybe 12 2nd-hand EFT tranche 1 block 5 with AMX thrown in as incentive or at special low-price as part of a package. Complements their strengths and weaknesses, IMHO. The Italians were willing to sell their used EFT FGR4/T3 for the same price as a used F-16s to the Romanians and PH was contemplating getting used F-16s until they abandoned it because they think it will not last that long. Italian EFT block 5 are not as extensively used and the Italians are marketing those as 2nd-hand but only slightly used.

    Get a fkucing clue...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMX_International_AMX

In 2011, Italian AMX aircraft were employed during the 2011 military intervention in Libya. Italian military aircraft deployed 710 guided bombs and missiles during sorties: Italian Air Force Tornados and AMX fighter bombers deployed 550 bombs and missiles, while Navy AV-8Bs deployed 160 guided bombs. AMX aircraft for the first time used Litening III targeting pods paired with Paveway and JDAM guided bombs.

As of March 2012, the Philippines is in negotiations with Italy for the possible procurement of used AMX aircraft, although no official information has been released.
