I'm guessing you haven't tried any Venezuelan rum. Santa Teresa Edicion Especial, Cacique 500, and that Cacique that comes in a ceramic bottle, oh and Pampero Aniversario. Diplomatico is also pretty good as far as I remember.
I tried the best rum I have ever had recently. It is called Ron Zacapa Centenario 23. It is a 23 year old aged Guatemalan dark rum. It is by far the smoothest, tastiest rum that has ever crossed my tongue. I never thought I would taste a rum that I found to be as good as some of the really good single-malt or single-barrel whiskeys, but this one is.

Vodka > Rum.

PS. And you don't need to make vodka 23 or whatever years old. Make it, drink it. Dumplings as a snack, no need of expensive cheese or whatever![]()
Quite popular here..
Can stand the taste of Rum since that one night back in college.
Actually rather nice, aged seven years...
But never the less I'll go for a single malt or a high end gin any day.

I drank the Zacapa a couple of times, its good but I prefer Havana Club 15 yrsand a Cohiba Siglo 3

In my experience, it's hard to beat the local rums in the Carribean/Americas, especially compared with the mass produced stuff by the big international spirit "brand management" companies.
Although I thought I had heard from someone that the Venezuelans really like imported Scotch?
I saw the same in Southeast Asia......they love the stuff......I guess maybe it's a bit like being spoiled and taking for granted what is local and coveting what it foreign.....two way street I suppose?
