Thats pretty sweet man. I love Cuba. They mentioned that they had a lot of Americans come in from other countrys, but I thought it was mostly propaganda.

You're quite welcome. Hope Mrs. Mein Teil didn't find out about it!

For white rum I enjoy this one, Pyrat.

The only spiced I ever liked is Mt Gay.

The laws prohibiting travel to Cuba probably deter some people, but I think a lot of others (including myself) have been attracted due to the "off-limits" mystique and challenge of getting away with doing something naughty.

I have read that there are travel agencies that unofficially specialize in travel to Cuba. Also that border guards are lax in stamping passports.

Apparently, there are no Cuban laws about Americans visiting. Either way, they have great rum there..

No passport ever gets stamped, what they do is write your name and everything else in a list and when you leave they also write all that info. Hope that helps.

Okay, here it is. I tried the Anniversario against the Zacpaca. The outcome is no contest. The Anniversario is a fine amber rum; a nice but strong experience, yet reasonably smooth. That being said, the Zapcapa is the winner, hands down. It is darker, but not sweeter or heavier like Myers. The Zacapa is just very, very silky smooth like a truly fine very, very old whiskey. It has no bite at all. Not just a little bite; none at all. It is really that smooth. It is so tasty and fine that it is hard to do it justice in the spoken language.

I am encouraged in that I even found Ron Zacapa in our local Safeway. I cannot recommend Ron Zapaca strongly enough as the very best sipping rum for the buck out there. It blows the hell out of everything else I have tired thus far.

Now I have to try that Haitian $70 a bottle stuff.... This research is not helping my retirement fund.

    A) They import sugarcane extract.
    B) They use sugar beets.
    C) There is some southern area that actually allows the cultivation of sugar cane (seems unlikely).

When I went to Cuba, I brought back some stuff called Ron Santiago, which was recommended by the guy who worked there. Wasn't pricey or anything.

The Haitian stuff is good, best I have had... But from your description of the Zapaca, I hope it is not 70 bucks down the drain.
