My wife got carded whilst attempting to purchase assault gardening shears in England. I laughed my ass off.

A societal paradox is that both liberals and conservatives feel they have it all figured out.

But then people would use blunt metal objects to kill each other...

You'd probably have to ban those, too.

You just made an argument for gun control. From that article you linked: "Officials in Weifang city said the victims' wounds were not life-threatening and they were in stable condition."

If he was using an assault rifle the result could have been far worse.

Read the wiki about the dozens of people killed with hand held implements I could not link. The second article is an afterthought that reinforced my point that gun ownership is not linked to violent tendencies. Crazy people will make do with anything at hand.

Your last statement regarding type of gun was a bit silly. This current one is up there but not so much as the last.

We all know this could have been avoided if the length of blade limit was 1 inch instead of 3 and certain types of knives were banned. Who needs a butter knife anyways?

The sad truth is that if someone has the will to kill others, there is very little to stop them. Hell, steal a dump truck and run it down sidewalks and you can do more devastating damage than a kid with guns in a movie theater.

I doubt anyone disagrees with you on that point about crazy people. The point is that some weapons are significantly more effective at killing than others which is why many are illegal for private citizens to own.

Nobody but Culinary Professionals need butter knives.

Well, we'll have to ban anything metal, toothbrushes, ziplock bags, styrofoam cups...

I won't disagree with you that guns make killing more efficient. Regardless of that point though, with little creativity and intellect, one can create ways of mass killing cheaply and equally or more efficient. I'll not post any suggestions but I'm sure you can think something up.

That's true. Ultimately we have to trust our fellow citizens.
