    Default Torpedo Trawlers

Never seen this before and I thought all the wet heads would like it.

Since it is painted grey it seems like a navy auxiliary to me, not one of the SIGINT vessels, which were painted like civilian trawlers.

My guess is that it is a torpedo trials vessel. Both firing platform and recovery vessel in one.

    Edit:
    My hunch was correct
It is a project 1824 "Muna" class coastal transport coded OS-57 which supports torpedo research.

^ could indeed be the case. Is that a recovery crane on deck?

OC series were all "one off" conversions of various naval ships into floating test vessels. Most were converted from old minesweepers and amphibs for various research purposes (torpedoes, missiles, radars, sonars, lasers, etc).

There were more than 60 of them at various times. No specific design, all of them ad hoc conversions.\

Yards like Stralsund which knocked out a fair few of the Soviet trawler intel vessels only ever seemed to paint in shades of grey

Doesn't a typical submerged Torpedo Tube open outwards though?

Sounds like a perfect fishing vessel for the South China Sea.

The fairings usually retreat depending the position of the tube.

Well, the soviet colour palette seemed to be quite limited.

Saw this story earlier and was relating it to my Dad.
He used to run across, shadow and board SIGINT trawlers in the Bering Sea in the early 60's
I said "Dad! Some of them might have had torpedoes!"
He said "Boy, I doubt those drunken c*nts could have found their own ass with both hands and a road map, let alone the launch button for a torpedo"

I think the inscription is in Cyrillic and reads Oskar, so it is probably Russian/SU. The name is not popular in Bulgaria or ex-Yugoslavia.
