    Default Vintage Sniper Rifle Match



    Fred Gowen, a veteran of the battle of Hue City, 1968, during the Vietnam War, sends a round down range with his M1903 Springfield during the Vintage Sniper Rifle Matches, Aug., 1, 2012 aboard Camp Perry, Ohio. Nearly 500 competitors used military rifles issued during and prior to the Korean War.


    Fred Gowen, a veteran from the battle of Hue City, 1968, during the Vietnam War, waits with a round in the chamber for his target to reappear, during the Vintage Sniper Rifle Matches, Aug., 1, 2012 aboard Camp Perry, Ohio. When the targets appeared competitors had 20 seconds to adjust their sites and send a round down range before the targets would disappear into the pits and reappear in 20 seconds for another shot. Competitors shot 10 rounds at the 300 and 10 rounds at the 600 in this manner.

    Default Close Protection Unit pack punch during training

    Part of the Royal Military Police, the CPU deliver provost support, such as bodyguarding, for the Ministry of Defence and other government departments. Their training is progressive and demanding, and they're armed with a variety of weapons not normally seen on the parade square. "Forget the glory hunting; bodyguarding is not like the movies. For me, it's doing a professional job."

Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in the biennial RIMPAC exercise from June 20 to Aug. 3, in and around the Hawaiian Islands.
