http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-ne...muslim-fastingBEIJING (AFP) - Authorities in China’s restive northwestern region of Xinjiang have banned Muslim officials and students from fasting during Ramazan, prompting an exiled rights group to warn of new violence. Guidance posted on numerous government websites called on Communist Party leaders to restrict Muslim religious activities during the holy month, including fasting and visiting mosques. Xinjiang is home to around nine million Uighurs, a Turkic speaking, largely Muslim ethnic minority, many of whom accuse China’s leaders of religious and political persecution.
I wonder what their Taller than Oceans and Deeper than Mountain friends think now.
There is no need for such actions. Muslims who fast eat twice a day, at dawn and again at dusk. They are not allowed to eat or drink water only during daylight hours. Their Fast is pretty much a joke, the only "problem" i can think of is possible dehydration for those fasting during long summer months or those near the equator.
The chinese are have the great advantage of not having to observe PC when dealing with muslims.
How can anyone make or stand behind a decision to dictate to people how much they can eat on a religious holiday? Who the hell bans fasting? This is one of the most idiotic things I've heard in a while. They blatantly strip them of religious freedoms and deny oppressing them in the same breath.
Funnily enough few people seem to mind that China violently oppresses Lamaism and spiritual movements such as Falun Gong to the point where desperate monks burn themselves to death, but woe to them when they dare tread on the toes of the Ummah!![]()
Pakis are true opportunists. They play the ummah card only when it suits them. They'll probably keep their holes shut on this one. A while back when China cracked down on the Uighurs they didn't do jack****, as a matter of fact they expressed solidarity with their Chinese brethren.
AFP has been caught repeating and amplifying disinformation about China before, and when was the last time Pakistani "news source" considered truthful and reliable? The whole thing smells like BS to me.
Why restrict their Fasting? it doesnt cost China any resources to let them fast. and how do you stop it? shoot them unless that eat at lunchtime? doesnt make sense.
As you rightly pointed out the news is from AFP. As for your charge on AFP repeating disinformation about China, what choice do people have when it comes to news about China ? Xinhua, which only sings praises of the CCP ?
As for Pakistani sources, why would they want to spoil the name of a brotherly nation like China, who's friendship is Taller than Oceans and Deeper than Mountains ?
