Default Polish president - "We need our anti missile shield"

According to Polish Wprost magazine Polish president Komorowski said, that Poland needs anti missile shield and will build it. Polish shield will be a part of an European Missile Shield.
Polish president said, that it was a mistake to trust USA and Polish government should think about political risk of changing president in USA. Because USA don't want to build shield together with Poland, Poland decided to build it's own together with other European countries.

Good job Obama! I strongly doubt if USA will be able to rebuild relationships with Poland in next 20 years.

They could build shield with Russkies. Sadly it wouldn't happen.

So what about those other European countries? Any real projects?

So it's good thing Obama will be president only for next four years...

But i suspect this indigenous advanced european anti missile system would be called... Luftwaffes PAC-2, rahter than Aster 30.

Sorry but old PAC-2's are ... crap. Especially Luftwaffe ones - they werent modernised for years an Luftwaffe just looks around to dump this junk somewhere. They wanted to give them for free. But sadly its not worth it even if there given for free - costs of repairs and modernisation would bring it to like 1/2 cost of S-300 (of course we wont even consider them, due to missile being non-NATO standard) for far less capable missile. Better to get less Aster 30's than loads of PAC-2's that can't hit ****.

Rumors say they failed back in 1991 as Scuds interceptor (hit but didn't destroy?).

There were problems with software, not hardware back then... it was long time ago patched, dunno however if Germans ever pathed their systems.

There are 4 upgrades for Pac-2. IIRC Germany delivered upgraded Pac-2's to South Korea.

lets put it this way: German missiles are
    PAC-2 MIM-104C - more than 20 years old - operational since 89'

While versions worth something nowadays start from
    104E

Modernisation to at least 104E would imply either buying new missiles for launchers (expensive) or sending them back to USA for modernisation. Not to mention software (but Germany most likely did have it patched, as just like any other user)
Also, some PAC-3 missiles would be required to provide any significant capability against most modern missiles.

Countries that use Patriots either go for PAC-2 104 E + some PAC-3 or plan to move away from the system.

Germany did deliver them cause Simens can produce most of Patriot components. But we don't talk about German missiles that Germany plans to still use - we talk about leftovers that will be given out to Poland. A Junk that Germany would give for bargin price to 3rd world country if USA allowed it...

Again... your not in the topic. We talk about missiles Luftwaffer offered FOR FREE to Poland - cause they plan to rearm these divisions to other systems. Not about Germany's air defence as whole.
    I suggest you pay attention.

I sure hope this is bollocks. It was stupid to sell our MiGs for 1€ each, but handing out missiles for free like candy to kids is beyond ridiculous.

Oh, and according to the Luftwaffe website, our FlaRakGrp use PAC-3.

Whats it with the recent bellicosity of our eastern neighbours?
    First 1000 tanks now missiles?
    Anything to worry about?

Didn't there used to be 4 units? I believe Pac-3 is what you retained for the remaining 2 units, the older Pac-2 were discontinued.

And seriously, we need to replace old equipment and weapons with new ones. That's all... it is that strange for western europe countries that someone want to modernize it's armed forces?
