Arrow Drudge reports Patraeus on Romney's VP pick shortlist

Romney’s veep shortlist may have some real fight — in the form of Gen. David Petraeus, says Drudge

According to the Drudge Report, the current director of the CIA met with Mitt Romney last week, presumably to discuss his role as a potential GOP running mate, but the White House says it's not so.

Adding Gen Petraeus to the ticket is much like adding tints and a big boy spoiler to a Mercury Sable.

I dont think the General wants to be a Politician, hell I dont think he wanted to be Head of the CIA but Obama was trying to kill off a Potential political rival.

Col. Alan West wants to be a politician, of course he is 10 years younger that the General and a mere Col. compared to 4 stars.

And sort'a true. Can't really see Patraeus going for second place if he's ever to enter the political stage.
Bloody hell, with a proper campaign he'd probably wipe the floor with both Obama and Romney.

Too late this time around, but serving a full term as VP does pad one's resume out nicely for a potential presidential run. Being CIA Director does not hurt, either. Ask Bush, Sr.

I agree. But then again, if Romney picks him to the VP and then proceeds to win, Patraeus could see himself waiting 8 more years before running for the spot himself, unless he'd want to challenge the sitting president.... But then again, he'd have too anyway if Romney wins and he's not picked VP.
I'm a bit rusty on Presidential history, but has a sitting pres. ever been challenged by an own party affiliate during an election?

I think Patraeus would do I fine job but then again, I like the guy. Seems like the real deal.

And that is probably why he should stay as far away possible from politics.

Being a former CIA Director, perhaps he arrange for an earlier opening in the Oval Office.

Yes, but not for many, many years.

    I admit. I laughed.
The issue would actually be to get the guy who got the guy.
The business with Oswald was a mess-up.

So it's probably out of the question now-a-days?

I'm showing my age here - but President Carter was challenged by the worst of the Kennedy brothers. And it certainly doesn't seem that long ago - but alas... its been 30 years.

Every time I see a career military officer mentioned as a potential running mate - I bury my face in my hands and go oh God please no.

The good officers won't make it in politics. And the officers that make it in politics were politicians in the first place *slow clap*.
