the way I was told by the museum guy at camp Bob, the Premise of the limited size of their army vs the size of the US it made more sense to hit key junction points, airfields of military concern, and US military bases, that was supposedly the main concept. but like I said, the school mishap scene had been cut, so some of the "true" plot (why did the Russians invade Calumet) fell through....
