Ryan is a political animal with a numerical bent he should add a bit of snap to what's been a contenders lacklustre campaign, he will not however pull in extra votes as his known political stance will not pull in the undecided.

That is some funny stuff and so true. I guess Biden will have to show up sober to a few of these debates.

The undecided in the USA tend to worry about the deficit and guess what Ryan has been trying to lower?

Holy crap, it's the Friday Night Creature Feature starring Willard and Eddie Munster! Well, that's it; steel yourselves for another four years of the Obama administration. Hilarity ensues.

With Romney announcing Ryan as his running mate, he has all but guaranteed that Obama will be reelected. Game over.

It sort of begs the question who should he have picked in your opinion? Rice was never an option, Jindal and Haley lack the chops and credibility, and Rubio likely does not want to put his ascent on hold for what could be 4 to 8 years. Ryan at least has a track record that squares with Romney's campaign strategy and (hopefully) resonates to a degree with swing voters. Furthermore, Ryan has no problem challenging the incumbents in a semi-serious manner. He far outclasses Biden. In hindsight I don't think there was ever any real debate.

Ryan's not going to bring any votes over and he may switch a few waivering voters in the middle to the Dems.

I have not dwelled on who should have been Romney's running mate. When you look at the list of "possibles," there are very few that he could have considered. He couldn't pick an industry leader because it would be portrayed as the rich making sure they stay rich, other politicians bring their own baggage along, and Condi Rice is too easily portrayed as a hawk-ish neocon. The others you mentioned have their limitations.

Elections are not about the best candidate, they are about the candidate that can best get elected. Unfortunately, we have voters that will vote with self-interest as opposed to accepting that changes that are not in their best interest are the choices that have to be made.

******* summarizes the key facts about the 42-year old House Budget Chair and potential future American vice president.
    • Ryan, 42, a rising star among the populist Tea Party movement and fiscal conservatives who dominate the Republican Party, has served seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives since first being elected in 1998.
    • Ryan attracted attention when, as chairman of the powerful House Budget Committee, offered a controversial plan in January 2010 to reform the tax code and eliminate the federal deficit. The plan relies on tax cuts and would minimize federal spending while drastically overhauling Medicare, the popular government-run health program for the elderly.
    • Romney endorsed that plan during the primaries, and by adding the Wisconsin congressman to the ticket, he makes the document the centerpiece of his run for the White House and raises the possibility that much of the campaign debate will be about spending, deficits and Medicare, rather than job creation.
    • Ryan could help Romney gain ground in his home state of Wisconsin, a battleground state that seems to be leaning toward Obama after a polarizing battle over the unsuccessful recall of the state's Republican Governor Scott Walker.
    • But because of Ryan's plan to cut Medicare, Romney also runs the risk of alienating seniors, a group that has narrowly backed Republicans in recent elections.
    • Before being elected to Congress, Ryan was an aide to conservative U.S. Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas and has worked with U.S. Senator Robert Kasten of Wisconsin. Ryan also worked for former New York congressman and one-time Vice Presidential candidate Jack Kemp. These experiences make him a creature of Congress - a political body that has become increasingly unpopular among voters in recent years.
    • Ryan is a fifth-generation Wisconsin resident. He grew up in Janesville before attending college at Miami University in Ohio. His father and grandfather died of heart attacks in their 50s, making him mindful of a healthy lifestyle and he exercises frequently.

Creatures in congress are unpopular with voters
Thats why John Dingell, Daniel Inouye, John Conyers, Charles B. Rangel, Bill Young, Thad Cochran, Pete Stark, Don Young, Patrick Leahy, Max Baucus, Chuck Grassley, Tom Harkin, George Miller, and Henry Waxman are still around the halls

Dingell and Inouye have between them 108 years in Congress

Regional versus national political voters are much different. Rangel, who should be in prison, keeps getting elected because he can con the people in his district to keep reelecting him. It doesn't exactly work the same for national elections.
